Senator William "Mo" Cowan today applauded the confirmation of Jacob Lew to be the next U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. The United States Senate confirmed Lew by a vote of 71 to 26.
"Jack Lew has a strong record of hard work and commitment to our country. His service in the executive branch and having cut his teeth in Congress under Speaker Tip O'Neill show that he is eminently qualified for Secretary of the Treasury," said Senator William "Mo" Cowan. "While speaking with him earlier this week, he made it clear to me that he understands many of the serious realities that face Massachusetts families. There are folks that need help getting a job, saving for retirement and obtaining a mortgage, and our businesses need certainty that we are serious about our budget deficit and our need to invest in our economic future. He has assured me that he will work with the Massachusetts delegation on real solutions to very real problems. I'm encouraged that the Senate could come together again today to confirm another nominee who will strengthen our nation as we continue on the road of economic recovery."
