Cornyn Questions Holder Over Death of Reddit Co-Founder Aaron Swartz

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today questioned Attorney General Eric Holder on the conduct of the Justice Department over their involvement in the prosecution of Reddit co-founder Aaron Swartz:

Sen. Cornyn: "Does it strike you as odd that the government would indict someone for crimes that would carry penalties of up to 35 years in prison and million dollar fines, and then offer him a three or four month prison sentence?"

AG Holder: "I think that's a good use of prosecutorial discretionÂ…"

Cornyn: "So you don't consider this a case of prosecutorial overreach or misconduct?"

Holder: "No."
