Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) throws her support behind Senator Dianne Feinstein's new assault weapons ban and announced that she will join her colleagues Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (NY-04) and Congressman Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) as they introduce the new assault weapons ban in the House of Representatives next week.
"We must act now, before it's too late, to pass bold overdue gun control legislation that is necessary to protect our children and families from these senseless mass killings we've sadly witnessed at the elementary school in Newton, a movie theater in Aurora, a college campus in Virginia and a high school in Columbine," said Congresswoman Hahn. "We need to ban military style assault weapons and high capacity magazine clips that serve no useful purpose in our neighborhoods. Let us not wait for yet another tragedy."
Congresswoman Hahn is an original co-sponsor of this new assault weapons ban measure. This legislation will specifically ban the sale, transfer, importation or manufacturing of over 100 specifically-named firearms, ban magazines that can carry more than 10 cartridges and eliminates the ten year sunset that allowed the original ban to expire. The measure will also ban firearms that can accept a detachable magazine in addition to at least one other military-style feature.
Hahn has also advocated for the expansion of gun buy-back programs, increased trigger lock use and required universal background checks
