Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement today regarding the reintroduction of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA):
"I was proud today to stand with Leader Nancy Pelosi, Whip Steny Hoyer and my Democratic colleagues as we reintroduced the Violence Against Women Act. This legislation has been vital to affording women protection from abuse and providing law enforcement with essential tools to combat domestic violence. It is unacceptable that this bipartisan bill was allowed to expire in the last Congress. Let us not make the same mistake in the 113th Congress. No woman should ever be forced to feel unsafe or insecure in her own home and no woman should ever suffer in silence in the face of domestic violence. We must act now to reauthorize and strengthen this landmark measure," said Congresswoman Hahn.
