Congressman Kevin Cramer (R-ND) Urges Leaders In The House To Address Much Needed Spending Reforms

Statement

Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer (R-ND) released the following statement regarding the implementation of President Barack Obama's sequester:

"Today marks the official implementation of President Obama's sequester. It is unfortunate the President and the Senate did not offer a budget to avoid the across-the-board cuts resulting from the sequester like the Republican House has. The President wants to spend and tax more while Republicans are looking to correct areas of waste, fraud and abuse. Sequestration is not the way to cut spending, but spending must be cut. The sequester cuts the federal budget by 2.3%.

I am working with leaders in the House of Representatives and with fellow freshmen on both sides of the political aisle to address much needed spending reforms. I am hopeful within a few days we will have a continuing resolution and appropriations bill to give the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs authority to make targeted cuts while maintaining critical military and service priorities. I hope Washington is getting the message we have a spending problem that must be dealt with. Perhaps President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are ready to sit down and pound out a budget that make appropriate cuts and help our economy. The Republican House of Representatives has and will continue to lead this effort."
