Location: Sacramento, CA
Issues: Infrastructure

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), issued the following statement after Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) introduced companion legislation to Congresswoman Matsui's own Natomas Basin Flood Protection Improvements Act:

"I applaud Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer for their continued strong commitment to strengthening the Sacramento region's flood protection. Our region is the most at risk urban area to river flooding in the nation, and our legislation will ensure Sacramento's flood protection priorities receive the federal attention they deserve.

"The Natomas Flood Improvement Program is a critical public safety project that will protect over 100,000 people, two interstate highways, and an international airport. I thank Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer for their leadership in introducing companion legislation to my H.R. 135 in the Senate. Given their positions in the Senate, both of our Senators will play a significant role in achieving authorization for the Natomas levee project. I look forward to continuing to work closely with them, and with my colleagues in the House, to ensure this critical project is authorized, funded and completed."

Senator Feinstein serves as Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development Appropriations. Senator Boxer is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
