Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) held a conference call with defense contractors from Patuxent River Naval Air Station to provide them with an update on sequestration.
"I know the automatic spending cuts known as sequestration, which could have a harmful impact on our economy and national security, are of great concern to our local defense community, including our contractors who support our men and women in uniform," stated Congressman Hoyer. "I share their frustration and have repeatedly called on the House to replace this irrational process with a balanced solution that replaces the sequester and ends the uncertainty businesses and families are facing. Unfortunately, House Republican leaders, who control the agenda, have refused to bring a bill to the Floor that would replace the sequester or delay it while we continue working toward an agreement. I will continue to urge both parties to compromise on a balanced plan that will avert sequestration and protect local jobs."
Congressman Hoyer is the co-sponsor of a bill that would prevent sequestration through a balanced mix of spending cuts and additional revenues. He will continue to provide updates to the defense community over the coming weeks.
