Congressman Joe Kennedy III announced today that he will attend this weekend's 2013 Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage in Alabama. Led by Representative John Lewis (D-GA) and hosted by the Faith and Politics Institute, the bipartisan pilgrimage is a three-day journey through Birmingham, Selma, and other historic sites in the Civil Rights Movement.
"At a time of dramatic partisanship in Washington, this weekend serves as a powerful reminder of the cooperation and courage it takes to affect real change," said Congressman Kennedy. "It's an honor to join Rep. John Lewis -- a man who has always put principles before politics -- in tribute to a time when this country demanded better of itself."
This weekend marks the 13th anniversary of the annual pilgrimage and coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. For more information on the weekend, click here.
