Following his vote for the No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013 that helps prevent default and successfully passed the House of Representatives today, Congressman Bill Enyart encouraged Congress to get to work immediately to responsibly reduce the deficit and create jobs. Enyart condemned politicians in Washington for forcing Southern Illinois small businesses, middle class families, veterans, and seniors to pay the price of their political games.
Enyart said: "In my 35 years in the military and as the former Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, I gained the experience and the confidence to take the tough challenges head-on because we knew what was on the line. Washington has given Southern Illinois middle class families enough heartburn so we cannot afford to waste any time in getting serious about our spending problem.
"Today I joined Republicans and Democrats to extend the debt ceiling, but this is not an excuse to continue irresponsible Congressional dysfunction that's become the norm. I call on my colleagues to start putting regular people first by coming together and working out a comprehensive solution that addresses the deficit and strengthens the economy."
