Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, made the following statement on North Korea's most recent nuclear detonation.
"North Korea has, again, chosen the path of regional isolationism and instability. By escalating their nuclear weapons program, North Korea continues to cultivate a culture of instability in the region, affecting current and future investment and trade. China has an opportunity to demonstrate that they are serious about being a responsible world leader and should pressure its neighbor and trade partner to end their nuclear program. Additionally, the Obama Administration needs to replace its failed North Korea policy and refocus on targeting the military funding streams of this rogue regime.
Rep. Matt Salmon is Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere and a member of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is fluent in Mandarin and has travelled extensively in Asia, most recently late last month as part of an official delegation.
