Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) issued the following statement in response to North Korea's nuclear test:
"North Korea's decision to conduct another nuclear test signals an increasingly dangerous and defiant stance that the United States cannot not ignore. This test violates North Korea's obligations under several unanimous United Nations' resolutions and their disregard for international law must be met with decisive action.
"Today's test illustrates the need for the Obama Administration to adopt a new strategy in response to North Korea. We must focus our efforts on crippling the Kim regime through strict sanctions that will address their illicit actions. Failure to act will result in a stronger and more dangerous North Korea.
"Finally, the threats posed by a nuclear North Korea highlight the urgent need to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear-weapons capability. Iran already exports murder around the world, props up illegitimate regimes such as Bashir al-Assad in Syria, and sponsors terrorist organizations such as Hizballah and Hamas. Imagine what Iran would do acting under the umbrella of a nuclear deterrent. The United States already faces in North Korea one outlaw regime with nuclear weapons; we cannot allow a second outlaw regime to join them."
