Committee Roles Will Benefit Arkansas

In the House of Representatives, members are assigned to committees that reflect the needs of their district. To provide my rural constituents in Arkansas's First District with the best representation possible, I serve on the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Agriculture is the number one industry in Arkansas. In Congress, I have worked to be a consistent voice on the Agriculture Committee for mid-south farm families and the challenges they face. Recently I was asked to serve as Chairman of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Rural Development and Credit. While I am grateful for the opportunity to lead, I know much work must be done to ensure mid-south producers can stay in business.

Serving as Chairman of the Subcommittee will give me a larger platform to advocate for farm families in Arkansas and across the country. As Chairman of the Subcommittee I will be able to call Congressional hearings on issues critical to Arkansas producers and craft common-sense policy that gives farmers the chance to continue producing the safest, most abundant and affordable source of food on the planet. I also plan shine light on federal programs that can be run more effectively and efficiently.

On the Transportation Committee, I am Vice-Chairman of the Waterways and Environment Subcommittee. Our Congressional district has more Mississippi River frontage than any other district in the nation. The Mississippi River is vital for regional commerce and holds great potential for attracting businesses to Arkansas that will grow the economy and create good paying jobs. On the Transportation Committee I will work to ensure dredging projects get priority and flood mitigation is not forgotten.

Leadership roles on the Agriculture Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will allow me to be a stronger voice for Arkansas's First District. Agriculture is our district's lifeblood and the Mississippi River connects our farms and businesses to the world. With new leadership positions in the House of Representatives, I hope to advance our region and protect our rural way of life.
