Today, U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX) released a statement following President Obama's press conference on the upcoming sequester:
"Today the president joined the Republican chorus that his sequester is not the solution to Washington's debt crisis. The House passed two bills last Congress to avert these disastrous across-the-board spending cuts while the Senate and President have sat idly by. As expected, President Obama put forth another proposal to yet again raise taxes. Last month the president already raised taxes on the wealthy, and it seems he will not stop until every American has to hand over more of their hard-earned money to the federal government.
The quickly approaching sequester must be replaced with meaningful cuts and reforms that balance the budget. Washington does not need more tax dollars to pay for its wasteful spending. If the president wants to make good on his promise that the sequester "will not happen" he needs to work with Congress now to make responsible cuts that won't threaten public safety, national security, or our economy."
