Fitzpatrick Condemns North Korea Nuclear Test

Statement

Date: Feb. 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) was joined by his colleagues in the House this afternoon in condemning the North Korean nuclear test that occurred earlier this week.

"We cannot continue to allow rogue governments like Pyongyang to disregard the calls of the international community to end their drive for nuclear capabilities," said Fitzpatrick. "Permitting the North Koreans to conduct nuclear tests without consequences will only embolden like-minded regimes around the world."

The resolution, among other things, "condemns the Government of North Korea for its flagrant and repeated violations of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions, for its repeated provocations that threaten international peace and stability, and for its February 12, 2013, test of a nuclear device; expresses solidarity with the people of North Korea who suffer severe oppression, denial of basic human rights and political liberties, and material deprivation; reaffirms the commitment of the United States to its alliances with Japan and South Korea, which are critical for the preservation of peace and stability in Northeast Asia and throughout the region."
