On the day President Obama was moved into the White House, gas prices averaged $1.84 per gallon. Today, gas prices are consistently above $3.00 per gallon.
As a husband and father of five, I understand the burden high gas prices are putting on South Carolina families. As an Air Force Veteran and former Secret Service Agent, I also understand reducing our dependencies on foreign oil is a national security issue.
Abundant, affordable energy is the lifeblood of our economy. I support a true all-of-the-above solution to our energy needs. That means everything from the safe development of onshore and offshore oil. clean coal. natural gas, and other fossil fuels. It also means the use of alternatives such as wind, solar, hydropower, nuclear, geothermal, and biomass when applicable.
I strongly oppose the President's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline, his efforts to block drilling off-shore and on federal lands, and his policies to shut down coal-fired power plants. These policies are costing hundreds of thousands of jobs, weakening our energy security and causing gas and electricity prices to skyrocket.
