Lummis Tells White House No on More Gun Control and Executive Orders

Press Release

Date: Jan. 24, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

US Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) on Wednesday joined House Republican members in sending a letter to President Obama declaring their support of the Second Amendment and opposition to additional gun control measures, whether through legislation or Executive Order. The letter comes in response to the President's call for resurrecting the ban on semi-automatic weapons and the announcement of 23 executive orders to advance his gun-control policy. The letter stresses the need to fight criminals, not turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals with draconian gun control measures.

"As a mother, I can barely imagine the horror and tragedy experienced by the parents of the Newtown victims," said Lummis. "But trampling on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiders won't solve the problem. I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States and am alarmed by the willingness of our President to brush it aside to advance his agenda."
