Rep. McKinley Issues Statement on Troubling Economic News

Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-WV) issued the following statement concerning the Fourth Quarter 2012 report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the January jobless numbers:

"This news should not be a surprise to the hard working families of America," said Rep. McKinley. "It's just a confirmation of what we've heard all across the First District. Families are struggling and there are many who still can't find work or are underemployed."

"Now is the time to face reality," said Rep. McKinley. "It's clear the Obama Administration's current policies are not working. Rather than continue to say the economy is in "recovery,' President Obama and his liberal allies in Congress need to admit their policies have not worked; and in fact they've made things worse. In the private sector, companies can't begin a turnaround until they admit they've made mistakes. The same should be true in Washington."

"Congress needs to put aside partisan bickering, start listening to those hard working taxpayers and small businesses that create jobs and support their ideas," added McKinley. "The liberals in Congress have tried stimulus spending and more government programs and none has worked."

"Now we should turn to the private sector and unleash its jobs creating energies by reducing uncertainty, eliminating unnecessary red tape, and reducing the burden of taxes that are too high and too complicated," added McKinley. "Washington liberals simply don't get it yet."
