Today, Congressman Randy Neugebauer (TX-19) voted to pass the conference report on H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The legislation authorizes funding for the Department of Defense and national security programs for the next fiscal year.

"This bill allows us to continue funding our military operations and the men and women that keep us safe," Neugebauer said. "I'm especially pleased that this legislation recognizes the importance of maintaining a strong B-1 Bomber fleet."

The B-1 bombers, based out of Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, will continue to serve as the workhorse of the U.S. bomber fleet. The B-1 is operating almost constantly over Afghanistan in support of American troops on the ground. From September 2001 through June 2010, the B-1 flew 70 percent of bomber combat missions while representing only 40 percent of the bomber fleet.

"The B-1 is a critical component of American national security, and I am glad that my colleagues supported my efforts to maintain its firm place in defending our country," Neugebauer said.

Background: The House version of the bill was approved on May 18, 2012 by a vote of 299-120. The Senate version (S. 3254) was approved on December 4, 2012 by a vote of 98-0. Pending final approval by the Senate, the legislation will now go to the President for his signature and passage into law.
