"As a charter member of the Fix Congress Now Caucus and early supporter of "No Budget, No Pay,' I applaud the passage of this common-sense legislation. It is long past time that Congress be held accountable for not fulfilling its legally required and most fundamental responsibility: passing an annual budget. The premise is simple: if Congress does not pass a budget, members of Congress do not get paid. While the Republican-led House has passed a responsible budget each of the last two years, the Democrat-controlled Senate has refused to pass any budget at all for nearly four years. Since then, the national debt has increased by more than $5 trillion. As every hardworking American family knows, fiscal responsibility starts with establishing a budget. Honest, responsible budgeting is absolutely necessary to restore fiscal sanity in Washington and prevent a full blown debt crisis. For the sake of our children and grandchildren, we must hold the Senate accountable and get this country back on a fiscally sustainable and prosperous path," said Congressman Black.

Congressman Diane Black serves on the House Ways and Means Committee.
