U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement after President Barack Obama urged Congress to reach a balanced agreement to reduce the deficit and avoid sequestration:
"Today, the President reiterated that although we have divided government in Washington, we cannot have dysfunctional government. In the weeks ahead, Republicans and Democrats need to work together to reach a long-term agreement that reduces our deficit in a responsible way, grows the economy, protects seniors, and creates new opportunities for middle class families. I will continue to stand up for these values on the House Budget Committee and fight to ensure that hardworking Rhode Islanders have a strong voice in Washington."
