Cicilline Statement on Black History Month

Location: Pawtucket, RI

In commemoration of Black History Month, U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today on what would have been the 100th birthday of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks:

"It is appropriate that during Black History Month we are also recognizing Rosa Parks's 100th birthday. Through a simple act of civil disobedience, Rosa Parks encapsulated the ideals of the American Civil Rights Movement and became an inspiration for all of us who believe that, as Dr. Martin Luther King proclaimed, "An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' This year, as we recognize Black History Month, I hope that all of us will commit ourselves to these same goals -- of standing up for equality, recognizing the dignity of each human being, and committing ourselves to ending injustice in our time."
