U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement today:
"I applaud President Obama's decision to nominate Senator John Kerry to serve as our next Secretary of State. Throughout a distinguished career in public service, Senator Kerry has consistently demonstrated the skills necessary for this position and the unique challenges it presents. During the last four years, President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have taken significant strides towards strengthening our position around the world and leading the efforts to confront terrorism, stop the spread of nuclear weapons, and promote peace and stability in the developing world. I am confident that Senator Kerry will continue this work skillfully and play an important role in leading our country forward."
