Marino Disappointed in Reed Exhibition Decision

Statement

U.S. Representative Tom Marino (R-PA) issued the following statement in response to Reed Exhibitions' decision to postpone the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex:

"I am extremely disappointed in Reed's stance of prohibiting the display or sale of many kinds of modern sporting rifles and magazines at the 2013 show and the subsequent decision to postpone the show indefinitely. These unfortunate decisions by Reed threaten the future success of this event that provides tremendous economic benefits throughout Pennsylvania, generating an estimated $74 million in revenues for exhibitors, small businesses, and not-for-profits. Additionally, despite the assertions by Reed that the decision to exclude modern sporting rifles and certain magazines only "affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits," its impact is in fact far greater than that. The decision represents yet another attempt to undermine protections guaranteed to all Americans under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and it restricts the ability for law-abiding citizens to purchase legal firearms that are increasingly being used for hunting in a number of states. I encourage Reed Exhibitions to swiftly reverse its decision and for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to take steps to ensure that all future events of this nature held at the Farm Show Complex are held in a manner that respects the Second Amendment rights of all Pennsylvanians."
