Rep. Kelly Unanimously Elected to Serve as Co-Chair of the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition

Statement

Date: Dec. 13, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) was unanimously elected to serve as the next co-chair of the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition, a bipartisan group of U.S. Representatives from the 18 Northeastern and Midwestern States. Rep. Kelly will be replacing the current Republican Co-Chair, Steven LaTourette (OH-14), who is retiring from Congress, and will serve alongside the current Democratic Co-Chair, Rep. James McGovern (MA-03). Created in 1976, the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition's mission is to "promote the economic vitality, the environmental quality, as well as regional equity for the 18 Northeastern and Midwestern states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin."

Rep. Kelly issued the following statement:

"There are few places in the world like the Northeast-Midwest region of America. We have land that is vastly abundant in natural resources, we have some of the world's finest educational and medical institutions, we are home to industries that build the world's greatest machines and most innovative technologies, we have small businesses that are the economic engine of our region and our country, and we have some of the hardest working, most entrepreneurial people you'll find around the globe. This region, which represents 38 percent of the House of Representatives, is best served when my colleagues and I in the House can work together to address the issues that directly affect our constituents, coming together to solve our shared challenges, while promoting our common interests and goals. It will be an honor to serve with my co-chair, Representative McGovern, to find common-sense, bipartisan solutions to best serve our constituents, our region, and our great nation."
