Schrader Statement on Postal Service's Intention to End Saturday Delivery

Statement

Date: Feb. 7, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

Congressman Kurt Schrader released the following statement today regarding the U.S. Postal Service's intention to end the delivery of mail on Saturday:

"Reliable, low-cost and six day mail delivery is absolutely necessary to ensuring that our communities are served," Rep. Schrader said. "We are already dealing with the closure of our Salem processing center, and removing Saturday delivery only brings greater uncertainty to mail service in the Mid-Valley. Unnecessary cuts to services do nothing to strengthen the postal service and hurt Oregon jobs, small businesses and commerce. Congress needs to come together and pass comprehensive postal reform and be clear to the Postmaster General that bypassing Congressional authority and taking unilateral action to end Saturday service is unacceptable."
