Schrader Statement on House Passage of No Budget No Pay

Statement

Date: Jan. 23, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kurt Schrader today released the following statement after bipartisan passage of H.R 325, No Budget No Pay, in the House of Representatives. The bill would suspend the debt ceiling until May and force the Senate to pass a budget by withholding their pay until they do or until the last day of the 113th Congress. If the House fails to pass a budget by April 15, the same rules apply.

"As a long time supporter of previous No Budget No Pay efforts, I am glad that the House Majority has finally listened to what Oregon taxpayers have been saying all along: If Congress can't do their job, they shouldn't get paid,"Schrader said. "This bill hopefully provides encouragement that Congress does not want to play politics with the full faith and credit of the United States. Instead, we want to take bipartisan steps forward and pass a federal budget that lives within its means, promotes job growth and economic certainty for the middle class of the future and provides our country with financial security going forward."
