Pentagon Decides to Lift Ban on Women in Combat

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement about Defense Secretary LeonPanetta's announcement that a ban on women serving in combat roles will be lifted:

"This is a change that is long overdue. Women have served bravely and capably throughout the military and have already proven themselves in combat. This change will open up new careers and new career paths for women who want to serve our country. And it will eventually lead to more women in positions of senior leadership who have combat experience."
