Dingell Statement on Republican Budget Gimmicks

Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI12) released the following statement in response to House passage of H.R. 444, the "Require a PLAN D Act," a Republican messaging bill that does nothing to balance the budget.

"While our Nation faces serious challenges and our middle-class families continue to struggle, it's unfortunate that House Republicans continue to waste time by voting on another partisan gimmick that does absolutely nothing to solve our fiscal woes or create one single job here in America. The sole intent of this bill is to blame President Obama for our country's unbalanced budget. The simple truth of the matter is that Republicans in both the House and Senate have been unwilling to work constructively with Democrats and the President to draw up a realistic budget that protects our middle class families, preserves Social Security and Medicare, and keeps the promises made to our veterans and our active duty service members. This partisan behavior puts the economic future of our country at great risk.

"I urge my Republican colleagues to work with congressional Democrats and the President to enact a realistic, long-term solution to our country's fiscal problems and stop playing political games."
