Today, Congressman Kerry Bentivolio announced his co-sponsorship of the Prioritize Spending Act of 2013 (H.R. 149). This bill prioritizes spending in a way that protects Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, military benefits, and debt interest payments by ensuring that they are paid for with the revenue received by the federal government each month rather than with borrowed money.
"Every family in my district must prioritize their spending when times get tough, and it is time for Washington to do the same," said Rep. Bentivolio. "This common-sense legislation prioritizes spending in a way that would prohibit the federal government from defaulting on the interest owed because of our national debt while maintaining its primary obligations to national defense and America's seniors."
The bill, introduced by Representative Daniel Webster (FL-11), has been referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
