Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress:
"Tonight, President Obama outlined a real jobs creation plan to grow our economy and strengthen America's middle class. I agree with the President -- we must build the middle class from the middle out, not the top down. We can build ladders of opportunity to expand America's middle class by making smart investments that both promote economic growth and do not add to our deficit.
"I'm especially encouraged that the President in his speech emphasized the need to boost domestic manufacturing and keep jobs here in America. Investing in manufacturing, infrastructure and education will help train workers for advanced manufacturing jobs and help us remain competitive in the twenty-first century.
"In the coming months, there is certainly no shortage of big issues for Congress to tackle. We must come together to solve these challenges we face in a way that doesn't burden middle class families or hinder our economic growth. My constituents work hard every day to earn a respectful living, and they rightfully expect the same from their elected representatives. In the coming months, we cannot allow partisan gridlock to delay progress on the many important issues we face as a nation."
