Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-5) released the following statement today regarding President Obama's announcement of proposals to reduce gun violence:
"I agree with President Obama that we must take comprehensive action to reduce gun violence and protect all of our citizens. Many of the president's proposals are common sense solutions that are supported by the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners. I am pleased that the president has already taken executive action to set in motion sensible reforms to protect communities like Flint, Saginaw and Bay City.
"Congress also has a moral obligation to take up legislation to reduce gun violence. Now is the time for Congress to act. I will review each and every one of the president's policy proposals carefully, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the safety of my constituents and our children. In the coming days, I look forward to having productive discussions with all Members of Congress -- Democrats and Republicans -- to support legislation that both respects the Second Amendment and protects our communities from gun violence."
