House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer announced today that he is appointing Congressman Dan Kildee (D-Flint Township) to serve as an Assistant Whip for the 113th Congress. The new role will position Congressman Kildee to assist the Democratic leadership in managing legislative business on the House floor in the coming term of Congress.
"I'm pleased to announce that Rep. Dan Kildee has been appointed to serve as Assistant Whip in the 113th Congress," said Whip Hoyer. "I am confident that Rep. Kildee will be a strong addition to the Whip team, and as a new Member of Congress, he will bring a new and valued perspective to the table. I look forward to working with him as we move forward on an agenda of job creation and strengthening the middle class."
"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Whip, which will allow me to advocate for legislation that helps middle class families in the Fifth Congressional District," said Congressman Kildee. "I look forward to working with Whip Hoyer and the rest of my colleagues to support policies that create jobs, rebuild our manufacturing base and helps protect the priorities of working families."
The Assistant Whip position is the second leadership role within the Democratic caucus that Congressman Kildee has taken since being elected. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi also announced last month that Congressman Kildee was elected by his fellow freshman members of Congress to serve on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. He will also serve on the influential Financial Services Committee.
