Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings released the following statement commending Senator Barbara A. Mikulski on being named chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations:

"I am proud to congratulate my dear friend and colleague, Senator Barbara Mikulski, on being named the first woman chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

"Sen. Mikulski's commitment to our great state is undeniable. As the longest-serving female member in Congress, she is a visionary leader who has knocked down barriers as a tireless advocate for women's and civil rights.
