Congressman John Tierney released the following statement after the Senate confirmed John Kerry as United States Secretary of State:

"Congratulations to Senator John Kerry on being confirmed as United States Secretary of State. John Kerry has represented Massachusetts tremendously well over his nearly 30 years in the Senate, and it has been an honor and privilege to serve with him and work together to strengthen the middle class, support small businesses, and make sure our veterans get the assistance and services they need and deserve. There is no question that John's impressive military and public service career has prepared him well to succeed as our country's top diplomat.

"I also want to take this opportunity to thank Secretary Clinton for her service and commend her for all the work she's done to repair and rebuild our country's bilateral relationships and her tireless efforts in support of the rights of women and girls worldwide. Secretary Clinton has served our country with grace and strength, and I wish her well in the future.

"There is much work to be done over the next four years, to bring our troops home, protect our national security, and strengthen our relationship with our allies. I look forward to working with Secretary Kerry on these and other critical issues."
