Today, Congressman Tierney made the following statement regarding the announcement that North Shore Community College (NSCC) president, Wayne Burton, will retire this summer:

"I have known Wayne Burton since his time as dean at then-Salem State College, where he was instrumental in developing the Enterprise Center, among many other things. Since then, he has shown himself as a tremendous force at North Shore Community College and across numerous communities.

"Throughout his tenure as president at NSCC, Wayne has been committed to expanding opportunities for thousands of local students. I have been particularly impressed with how tirelessly Wayne worked to make sure our newest generation of veterans and our young people with autism and intellectual disabilities could pursue their higher education dreams. These are two of the many areas on which Wayne and I have worked over the years, and I can attest that his leadership on and his compassion for them is unmatched. Knowing how involved Wayne has been with the North Shore Chamber of Commerce and the North Shore Workforce Investment Board, among other organizations, I anticipate that his retirement as North Shore Community College's president will mean he will only become more engaged civically. I wish him and Betsey and their entire family all the best, and I thank Wayne for all he's done for North Shore Community College and the communities it serves," said Congressman John Tierney.
