Congressman Tierney Statement on the Second Inauguration of President Obama

Statement

Date: Jan. 21, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Tierney made the following statement regarding the second inauguration of President Barack Obama:

"Whenever the American people exercise their democratic rights and peacefully elect a new President we all celebrate the swearing in of that President and anticipate with great hope the potential it has for the continuing pursuit of a more perfect union, as envisioned by our previous national leaders. The swearing in ceremony commemorates such an important historic event and I am pleased that so many of our local citizens are travelling to Washington D.C. to participate in President Obama's second inauguration. The fact that it shares the day with remembrances of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. makes it an especially significant time.

"There are a great many challenges facing our nation in the days and months ahead, from international crisis to the strengthening of the economy and need to help more people into gainful employment to passage of public safety measures in response to the Newtown, Aurora and other tragedies and much, much more. I am looking forward to continuing to work with President Obama and his administration, as well as my colleagues of all parties in the House and Senate, to strengthen the economy and create jobs, pass common sense gun safety reforms that keep our children and communities safe, help make college more affordable and accessible, and expand opportunities for the middle-class and those who aspire to it," Tierney said.
