Congresswoman Niki Tsongas released the following statement today following President Obama's nomination of Senator John Kerry to serve as the country's 68th Secretary of State.
"John Kerry is exceptionally well prepared for this position and I want to congratulate him for this much deserved honor. Serving as Secretary of State will allow him to continue his service to our nation and to the world; service he has performed honorably and with great distinction for so many years. It is a natural next step in his lifelong commitment to public service. He is a remarkably skilled diplomat who will be able to put this position to great purpose, including continuing our efforts to confront global climate change, a cause to which he has been so committed.
"I also want to thank Secretary Hillary Clinton for her exceptional service as Secretary of State. Our nation has a better standing in the world as a result of her tenure and I am particularly grateful for her extraordinary work on behalf of women and children across the globe.
"I congratulate the President on his wise choice."
