Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after cosponsoring the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act earlier this week in the United States House of Representatives:
"Congress should have the ability to pass or kill regulatory actions with an economic impact of $100 million or more. Rather than allowing that power to rest in the hands of unelected bureaucrats, this bill puts the power in the People's House. Doing so will hold elected officials accountable to the constituencies they represent while also discouraging Congress from rushing through legislation on tough issues. This is a good-government bill promoting transparency, and I am proud to support it."
