Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-South Louisiana), today released the following statement after Members of the House of Representatives took to the House floor to read the United States Constitution this morning:
"For over 225 years, the United States Constitution has served as the supreme law of our nation. It created the three separate branches of the federal government and continues to serve as the guiding light for our democracy. Reading the Constitution reminds lawmakers and the public of the duties and responsibilities inherently assumed upon taking the oath of office.
"I remain committed to the principles memorialized in the Constitution. I refuse to compromise them and seek to support and defend the Constitution as long as I live."
