Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy released the following statement on President Barack Obama's proposal to replace the sequester with a mix of tax increases and cuts to defense spending:

"House Republicans have passed two bills that would replace the sequester with fiscally responsible alternatives. Democrats in the Senate have refused to even vote on either bill. Now, instead of offering real spending cuts and budget reform, the President claims those who create jobs aren't paying Washington enough. The spending cuts he does offer disproportionately impact our defense, including critical installations like Fort Polk, Barksdale Air Force Base, and Belle Chasse Naval Air Station. This is unacceptable. We need real reforms that save Medicare and Social Security and ultimately balance our budget."
