Cassidy Supports No Budget, No Pay Act

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) joined the House of Representatives in supporting H.R. 325, the No Budget, No Pay Act. This bill withholds the salaries for Members of Congress if Congress fails to pass a budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year and provides for a three month extension of the debt ceiling.

"Congress can only get our fiscal house in order if we prioritize, on paper, what we will spend taxpayer money on and how much. Just like Louisiana families do. Since Republicans took control, the House of Representatives has passed two budgets. Meanwhile, the last time the Senate passed a budget, Apple's IPAD hadn't even been invented.

"This is unacceptable. The Senate needs to go on record with the spending cuts it says it is prepared to make. We know that unchecked spending harms our economy and will undermine Medicare and Social Security. All Americans, especially our senior citizens, deserve clarity from Washington. This bill pushes the Senate to provide such clarity."
