Today, U.S. Representative Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following remarks after the House passed H.R. 325, The No Budget, No Pay Act:
"This legislation is simple and cuts to the point: No budget, no pay. Since taking over the majority, the House has produced budgets that cut spending and promote the growth of our economy. In fact, the last House-passed budget slashed spending by more than $4 trillion. Conversely, it has been nearly four years since a Senate budget has seen the light of day.
"With this vote, the House once again invites the Senate to join us in a serious effort to reduce the debt that is threatening America's financial future. This legislation allows us to responsibly manage the nation's financial obligations while forcing both chambers to pass budgets--or their pay is withheld.
"It is quite evident that Washington will not exercise fiscal restraint by its own preference. Now, more than ever, we must set priorities and finally begin living within our financial means. Hopefully, this legislation will force the Senate to adhere to the same frame of mind."
