"We made a promise to our seniors and we must keep that promise. Social Security and Medicare are vital programs for our seniors and must be protected. I will fight any attempt to reduce benefits for those currently receiving Social Security and Medicare benefits."

-Debbie Halvorson

My husband and I have worked our entire lives to provide for our family. Like most people in the 2nd District, we aren't independently wealthy and don't have access to family money. And like most people in the 2nd District we look towards the future and worry about our later years when we may not be able to work anymore.

Social Security and Medicare ensure that no one that has contributed to the system their entire life is left in the cold as they enter their later years. Seniors deserve peace of mind and secure retirements, and that is what I've worked to deliver throughout my career.

As we work to recover from near economic disaster, our seniors are most at risk. Often on a fixed income, fighting rising health care costs and threats from big insurance companies, our seniors deserve better, and that is what I have fought to provide. I supported healthcare reform that closed the Medicare Part D "Donut Hole" and lowered prescription drug costs.

I have a record of working to strengthen Social Security and Medicare and have been supported by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. Thanks to the new healthcare reforms, Medicare will be stronger than ever, and I will fight any effort to privatize and weaken Social Security.

Our seniors have invested in these great programs, and they expect them to be there when they need them most--I will work hard to ensure we deliver on that promise.
