Congressman Brett Guthrie today issued the following statement after voting in support of the No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013:
"Washington has a spending problem that must be addressed. Today marks 1,365 days since the Senate passed a budget, or almost four years. That is unacceptable.
"Families and business owners live by budgets. Yet, the Senate continues to rubber-stamp President Obama's annual trillion-dollar deficits, and has ignored the most basic responsibility of fiscal planning by refusing to pass a budget for almost four years.
"Our economy continues to regain its footing after the recession, but certainty will not come for families and business owners until the Senate can pass a budget that takes into account our runaway spending.
"My colleagues and I came to Washington as your elected representatives and if we cannot do our jobs, we should not get paid. This bill is a good step in restoring accountability in Washington and I hope it will be the actor to encourage the Senate to take action."
