U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama's calls for permanent tax hikes in order to delay the sequester:
"President Obama originally proposed the sequester, then he claimed it "will not happen' last year. Yet once again, his answer to our economic challenges is to call for tax increases instead of spending restraint. Senate Republicans have offered alternatives to the sequester, and House Republicans have passed two bills outlining viable replacements. What we need now is presidential leadership, and I hope President Obama will start by proposing a responsible budget and encouraging his party leaders who control the Senate to do the same."
