Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in advance of the third anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United v. FEC, the anniversary falls on January 21st:
"Three years ago, the Supreme Court delivered the devastating Citizens United decision which allowed corporate and special interests to flood campaigns with unlimited amounts of money. That decision allowed wealthy people and special interests to have a disproportionate influence in our elections.
"House Democrats are committed to bringing change and reducing the role that big money special interests play in campaigns. Our DARE (Disclose, Amend, Reform, Empower) strategy will fight to reform campaign finance laws. We will fight for disclosure to prevent unlimited secret campaign donations. We must amend our Constitution, overturning the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling. We must reform the campaign finance system, so ordinary citizens have a larger role in our elections. And lastly we must empower voters to make sure that all American citizens have access to the polls."
