Roskam Statement on Passage of "Require a PLAN" Act

Statement

Date: Feb. 6, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the House's passage of the Require A PLAN Act:

"Under the Require A PLAN Act, the House of Representatives is giving President Obama until April 1st to propose his plan that will achieve balance and control spending in the budget. Since he already missed the deadline and his budget proposal will be late once again this year, let's at least ensure the White House gets it right. Look no further than yesterday's CBO report to see that the consequences of irresponsible budgeting are real. The CBO warned that 2013 will be plagued with weak economic growth and unemployment above 7.5 percent, and if we continue on this trajectory, our debt will reach $26 trillion by 2023. Over the last few years, American families have had to make hard financial choices and tighten their belts. It's time President Obama come forward with his plan to ensure a budget balance and thwart the coming debt crisis."
