McCarthy Statement on the President's Sequester

Statement

Date: Feb. 5, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement regarding the President's statement regarding the sequester:

"The President reaffirmed today his belief that Washington does not have a spending problem. In the face of annual deficits topping $1 trillion that have fueled a $6 trillion increase in the national debt, the President has called for new taxes -- just one month after tax rates increased for hardworking American families. Washington Democrats are mortgaging the futures of our children -- leaving them on the hook for their relentless spending. I am open to solutions that will prevent the President's automatic cuts to our national security with responsible reforms and cuts to spending, but we will not jeopardize our economic recovery and increase the burden on the hardworking families by submitting to the President's call to increase taxes."
