Today, Representatives Louise M. Slaughter (NY-25) and Diana DeGette (CO-01), co-chairs of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, applauded the Obama Administration's announcement clarifying the rights of women to access no co-pay birth control as part of basic health insurance coverage.
"This decision reaffirms the right of American women -- not their insurance company or their boss -- to control their own health choices and their access to birth control," said Congresswoman Slaughter. "The advent of birth control is directly responsible for major expansions of opportunity for women, and this latest policy development will ensure that women can continue to make their own decisions about when and how to have a family, and reap the life-saving health benefits of birth control."
"Today's announcement once again reaffirms that coverage of contraception for women is a central tenet of essential women's health care," said DeGette. "It reflects a commitment to science-based policy and ensures that American women will still be able to obtain the contraception they may need as part of their preventive care."
