U.S. Representative Richard Hanna is calling on New York's small business owners to weigh in on the development of federal regulations through a new online resource.
The website, "Small Biz Reg Watch" will highlight proposed regulations that could impact small companies and instruct business owners on how they can make comments to the federal agency considering the proposed regulation.
"I encourage all small businesses in upstate New York to get involved in the federal government's rule-making process through this new online tool. Government regulations have a much greater impact on small firms than on big businesses, so it's important that owners and employees of these firms make their voices heard early and often," said Rep. Hanna, Chairman of the Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and Workforce. "My goal is to help the many small businesses across Central New York and the Southern Tier who don't have lobbyists and teams of lawyers to navigate the federal bureaucracy and thrive under reasonable, business-friendly policies. So I'm pleased this website makes it easy for small businesses to track proposed regulations and submit comments and I urge all small businesses to utilize it."
Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo) said the goal is to engage small businesses in the federal government rule-making process.
"Not all regulations are bad, but many can be unnecessarily burdensome and it is important that small companies express their concerns before a rule is finalized," Chairman Graves said. "Because small businesses bear a regulatory cost that is much higher than the cost of compliance for large businesses, our Committee wants to help small companies make their voice heard as federal regulations are being considered."
The Committee will regularly communicate with small businesses via email, social media, and through district events around America when new comment periods begin for select proposed rules that impact a wide array of small businesses.
